Qatar, Turkey trade exchange grew by 100 percent in 2020

Qatar Chamber Chairman, Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani received yesterday President of Turkey’s Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD), Abdurrahman Kaan.

The meeting touched on reviewing ways of boosting commercial and investment cooperation relations between both sides, investment opportunities available in both sides as well as the possibility of establishing joint investments between private sector inside and outside both countries. Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Khalifa praised the distinct, close relation between Qatar and Turkey, noting that these relations are historic and based on understanding and mutual respect.

He also said that both countries’ relations have significantly developed within the past five years, citing their trade exchange grew by 100 percent from $900m to $1.91bn in 2020. Sheikh Khalifa also noted that there are hundreds of Turkish companies operating in the Qatari market in joint ventures with Qatari partners in various sectors such as trading, contracting, services and hospitality, stressing that Turkey is an attractive destination for investment for Qatari businessmen.

He also confirmed the Qatari businessmen’s strong desire to invest in Turkey and forge economic alliances with their Turkish counterparts, as well as benefit from the Turkish experience in establishing joint investments, especially in Africa which is full of feasible investment opportunities. On his part, Abdurrahman Kaan emphasized the interest of the association to establish close cooperation ties with Qatar Chamber to develop mutual investments between businessmen from both countries.

He also stressed the desire of Turkish businessmen to invest in Qatar in several sectors, pointing to a study to establish a factory for manufacturing food products in Qatar with a joint Qatar -Turkish capital to promote its products not only in the Qatari market, but rather the markets of the Middle East region.
