The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) recently hosted the “GCC Robotics Challenge - Qatar Round” organised in collaboration with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The event aimed to promote and showcase state-of-the-art technologies in robotics and their applications, and to provide experts and young engineers with a platform to discuss recent advances in robotics. Attendees included CSE Head Dr Sumaya Al Maadeed and IET Kuwait Community Chairman Dr Abdelrahman Abdelazim, as well as CENG faculty and staff.

The event drew the participation of five teams — four teams from QU, and one team from QU and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. They participated in six rounds in which robots were required to travel through the borders of Kuwait, to explore the desert in Saudi Arabia and the Land of Pearls in Bahrain, to kick a goal in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, to tour the valleys of Oman, and to compete in a sword fight in the UAE.

The first place winner was the team comprising students Naram Sultan Mhaisen, Omran Adnan Alrashid Abazeed, Md Mohammed Abdullah Al Mamun, and Omar AbdelKhalek. The second place went to the team comprising students Aya Talaat Hussein, Hafsa Salem Al Tairi, and Hagar Mohamed Wahid. The winners from each country in the GCC will be representing their country in the final competition that will take place at QU on April 29.
