A folkloric group in colourful Turkmenistan costumes enthrals the audience with a traditional performance at Katara Opera House on Saturday.
Turkmen culture took centre stage at the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, when the ‘Turkmenistan Cultural Display’, a series of events organised by Katara in association with Turkmenistan embassy, kicked off on Saturday.
The event consisting of folkloric musical performances, artistic exhibitions, films and documentaries was inaugurated by Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti and the Deputy Minister of Turkmen Culture Shamerat Ata Moradif.
The highlight of the show was a folkloric performance reflecting the rich culture and history of Turkmenistan by a group wearing colourful traditional Turkmenistan outfits at Katara Opera House.
Besides the musical extravaganza, the event offers a traditional handicraft exhibition depicting the life of communities in Turkmenistan. The exhibition included many cultural paintings, antiquities, and photographs of Turkmen horses, in addition to numerous brochures and documented books about tourism in Turkmenistan.
“Hosting similar events aid in enriching the cultural scene and help to enhance the cultural cooperation amongst societies. In addition, cultural performances like these open a window to new cultures, civilizations, and art. This cultural display represents a traditional side of Turkmenistan as it familiarises the audience with the heritage of the country and represents some humanitarian acts,” said Al Sulaiti.
The event reaffirms Katara’s efforts to promote the history and heritage of various cultures, in the region and beyond, by providing a platform to exhibit them to the public.
Moradif expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Katara for organising and hosting such event. The minister further lauded Katara’s readiness to embrace different cultures by saying that it is a cultural hub and an authentic meeting place of various cultures.
The Turkmen Folkloric Performance starts at 6pm at Katara Opera house. The documentaries are screened at Building 16, at 6pm, while the ‘Turkmen Traditional Handcraft’ exhibition opens its doors to the public from 10am to 10pm, at Building 18, gallery 2.
