24,660 new residency permits issued in January

As many as 24,660 new Residency Permits (RP) were issued in January this year through e-government (Hukoomi) showing an increase by 14.6 percent compared to the previous month ( December 2016), when 21,522 RPs were issued, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

The number of RPs renewed through the e-government portal during January showed an increase of 10.1 percent reaching 95,649 from 86,869 in December last year. However, the number of exit permits processed during January declined by a huge 95.5 percent compared to the previous month, from 24,227 to just 1,091. This is mainly because the number of people leaving the country to spend the new year holidays significantly increase during December.

A total of 36,913 health cards were renewed during January showing an increase of 17.4 percent compared to December when a total of 31,449 health cards were renewed. A total of 1,237 licences for medical practicing were issued during January showing an increase by 14.3 percent from 1,082 licences issued in the previous month.

The Hukoomi monthly statistics also showed a slight increase in the number of online registration for Medical Commission health check up during the period, with 51,941 and 44,697 registrations in January and December, respectively.

January also witnessed an increase in business visas issued through the portal by 48.6%.
