The police booked an Asian gang found forging seals of some famous international gold brands. A number of forged seals were seized from the nine-member group.
The fraud was detected during investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with the Licences Department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
Acting on a tip-off, the law enforcement authorities raided a workshop found making forged seals for gold jewellery. Those involved were taken into custody and a number of forged seals were confiscated. The police also caught a number of ornaments and other jewellery items carrying counterfeit seals from a jewellery owner, the ministry said in its Facebook account yesterday.
The accused were referred for further investigation. The CID has advised people to deal with only licensed jewellery shops and report any suspected cases over the emergency no 999.
