Arab Spring and De-Centering of American Studies meet concludes

DOHA: Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) concluded yesterday its international conference “From Tahrir Square to Zuccotti Park: The Arab Spring and the De-Centering of American Studies”.
The conference was held over four days and was concluded by a panel discussed themed American studies in the Arab world.
During the discussion, the participants spoke about how American studies form an important field to promote the concept of citizenship in an open-border world where cultural dialogue has become more widespread. The participants confirmed that the American studies play an important role in deepening the understanding between cultures and religions. In addition, they discussed the importance of the role of Arab universities in building institutional competencies to provide opportunities for collaboration between academics and researchers in the context of an integrated, sustainable and multi-directional intellectual environment dedicated to American studies in a global context.
The participants concluded by launching a global dialogue in support of peace, security, and prosperity.
The participants included Dr. Melani McAlister from George Washington University, Dr. Eid Mohamed from DI. In addition, Kambiz GhaneaBassiri from Reed College and Jocelyn Sage Mitchell from Northwestern University in Qatar presented paperwork on the topic.
