CPI inflation edges down in December

Qatar’s inflation, based on consumer price index (CPI), increaed 1.8 percent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) in December 2016, while the index, which was estimated at 108.3, has marginally declined by 0.3 percent when compared on month-on-month (M-o-M) basis to the CPI of November 2016, figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) revealed.
The rise in annual inflation was primarily attributed to the increasing prices seen in the eight groups, namely: “Transport” by 6.2 percent”, “Recreation and Culture” by 3.9 percent, “Education” by 3 percent “Miscellaneous Goods and Services” by 2.8 percent, “Furniture and Household Equipment” by 2.4 percent, “Clothing and Footwear” by 1.7 percent, “Housing, Water, Electricity and other Fuel” by 1.1 percent, and “Communication” by 0.1 percent. Also, decrease in prices in various degrees were noticed in three groups, namely: “Food and Beverages” by 3.2 percent, “Restaurants and Hotels” by 1.8 percent, and “Health” by 0.8 percent, and For “Tobacco” group, there is no changes recorded. 
A M-o-M  analysis, showed drop in inflaiton rates in several groups. including recreaton and culture.
