Qatar strong advocate of friendship, peace: Romanian Charge d’Affairs

H E Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Romania in Doha Gabriel Grecu affirmed that the State of Qatar is a strong advocate of friendship and peace in the world, within the framework of international law, as his country does, adding that this similarity of views has led to excellent cooperation between Romania and Qatar on several levels. In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the National Day, His Excellency said: “The State of Qatar stands out as a country in which wealth, wisdom and determination have merged together in an optimal mix, leading to a prosperous and safe country, not just for its nationals but also for its numerous residents.” 

“Qatar managed to promote its openness towards the world and its overarching and vivid diplomacy, which continued to thrive even during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” he explained.

“2021 Qatar National Day is the occasion to celebrate the country’s achievements in terms of diplomacy, economic and political admirable results. Qatar has remained strong and its projects have continued to develop and grow, adding every day to the beauty and magnificence of its skyline,” he added.

He pointed out: “The year 2021 bears special significance for the relation between Romania and the State of Qatar, because of the marking of 31 years of diplomatic relations in October 22nd. Throughout the years, Romanian specialists have contributed to important energy and infrastructure projects on the territory of Qatar. Besides engineering, the members of the Romanian community in Qatar are active in other fields such as sports, health, teaching, hospitality, and other services.” “There is mutual desire to continue to explore the potential of our cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral fora,” he stressed.

On Qatar’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, Charge d’Affairs of the Embassy of Romania in Doha Gabriel Grecu said: “Qatar has done an admirable job, managing to reverse the growing trends of the pandemic. Due to a decisive package of measures, sustained by the solid health infrastructure, we enjoy a gradual return to normal life in Qatar. Qatar’s generosity in supporting the fight against COVID-19 worldwide should also be applauded. And Romania too is thankful to the State of Qatar for its friendly gesture of granting medical support  equipment and sanitary materials - to our hospitals, in October 2020.”

Regarding the 2022 World Cup Qatar preparations, he said: “The State of Qatar has done a remarkable job with regard to finalizing preparations for hosting FIFA World Cup as well as all related developments projects throughout the country. Despite the challenges triggered by the pandemic, Qatar has proved its strong and steady commitment to hosting an unforgettable and amazing FIFA World Cup, which will build a cultural, social and economic legacy long way beyond 2022.”

“The unique architecture of the eight FIFA stadiums will offer the worldwide fans a glimpse of the Arab culture as well as Qatar’s authentic cultural heritage and great hospitality. Considering its high-level preparations and in-depth attention into details, Qatar has the ability to deliver the best FIFA Cup ever.”
