Doha: Al-Ahli Hospital launched a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it will be held throughout October.

As part of the awareness campaign, the Nursing Department thru the Nursing Education Department at Al-Ahli Hospital in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society is conducting an online awareness sessions for Al-Ahli family members that is shared as well with other social media audience.

These sessions aims to create awareness that coincides with the month’s theme ‘Keep HOPE Alive’ which aims to reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on the risk factors, symptoms and treatment, hoping that greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection of the disease.

Dr. Abdul Azim Abdul Wahab Hussain, Chief of Medical Staff at Al Ahli Hospital, said: “The breast cancer awareness campaign comes in response to the increasing number of breast cancers in the world. Prevention, early detection, and early treatment of breast cancer is of great importance, and this campaign focusses on getting this important message across to the community.”

He said, “Al Ahli Hospital is keen on building a community that believes that prevention is better than cure. Healthy lifestyles, regular exercise, a well-balanced diet, and weight control are encouraged.”

Early detection of this disease can save lives. So Al-Ahli Hospital has urged all women in Qatar to be ‘breast aware’ and take part in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We encourage women of different aged to undergo regular breast cancer screening. We want to educate and empower women about their breast health by knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and setting an annual mammography screening appointment,” Dr. Hussain said.

Claudine El Araybi, Director of Nursing at Al-Ahli Hospital, states that “The activity is all about a thorough discussion on breast health and encouraging women and men to practice regular self-check to identify what is normal  and that if an abnormality occurs it will be detected early.”

“Our goal in this campaign is to ensure women understand the importance of the regular self-examination and mammography as part of the preventive measures of breast cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment means that women can go on to lead a long and healthy life,” she added.

El Araybi said, “Although little is known about the cause of breast cancer and how it can be prevented, there is great hope for those who are detected early and seek effective treatment”.

“We are truly keen on raising awareness about the importance of health and wellness, and how individual actions can positively affect the individuals and the whole community.”

El Araybi also said that Al-Ahli Hospital aims to bring positive change to the community and honor those who are fighting against breast cancer.
