Experts from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has provided a full training program on the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).
Doha hosted the three-day training sessions as part of the ACT CORSIA initiative and Qatar’s role as a donor country selected by ICAO to provide direct and necessary assistance to a number of countries in the region that are preparing to implement the Corsican Plan.
The training program included an introduction of the CORSIA and annex 16 of the Chicago Convention, which included the development and adoption of emission monitoring and reporting plans and verification of their proportions, and the establishment of national regulatory frameworks for by implementing the COSRIA plan.
The training was attended by representatives of the GCAA, representatives of civil aviation authorities in Oman, Iraq and Iran, in addition to a number of participants from Qatar Airways and the Amiri Air Force. The CORSIA plan is an emissions reduction approach in the global aviation industry, developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization and is to be implemented voluntarily for participating countries from 2021, and mandatory for all countries from 2027.
Under CORSIA, most of the additional emissions from the growth of international air transport will be compensated.
