DOHA: The highest power consumption in Qatar was recorded at 7,435 megawatt (MW) on September 3 this year.
It is up 2.3 percent, from7,270 MW, the maximum load recorded last year, according to the data released by the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa).
The growth in water demand during summer this year was 3.7 percent, up at 310.7 Million Imperial Gallons per Day (MIGD) compared to last year’s demand at 300.5 MIGD.
Kahramaa made significant achievements in its conservation drive, especially in water conservation, during summer 2016 as compared to last year.
The National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) helped reduce the annual growth of water consumption drastically from up to seven percent to 3.7 percent, said the release.
The prime objective of Tarsheed is to reduce the per-capita water and electricity consumption in Qatar by 35% and 20% respectively until 2017.
Kahramaa successfully met the rising demands for electricity and water during summers (July, August and September) which also witnessed the holy month of Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha.
The technical & administrative preparedness and core planning strategies of Electricity and Water Directorate of Kahramaa have led to managing surging utility demands driven by rapid economic and demographic growth during summers with good performance indicators.
The Electricity Network Affairs Directorate has organized a number of electrical rural workshops across the country to ensure reliable and uninterrupted power supply and to cope up with the blackout scenarios in case of interruptions in supply lines. The purpose of the maintenance workshops was to ensure stable electricity supply and deal with faults on the spot in the shortest time, in coordination with the round the clock functional call center 991.
