Doha: Sonny Varghese (pictured) from Qatar is the recipient of the Toastmaster Internationals Presidential Citation Award for 2022.
Each year at the Toastmasters International Convention, the International President announces recipients for a Presidential Citation. This citation is presented to members who have shown continual support and dedication to the organization.
Sonny Varghese was one of the Toastmasters programme founders in Qatar in 1996 as a founder member of Doha Toastmasters. He was District Governor in 2006, the first Region 11 Advisor in 2010, Brand Ambassador in 2011, Member of the International Leadership Committee, and currently in Region Advisor Council.
As Toastmasters District 79 Governor, he was awarded President’s Distinguished District Award, Presidents 20+1 Award, Presidents Extension Award and President’s Excellence in Leadership Award. Varghese was the only recipient of all these four awards that year.
The criteria for the award are broadly based on contributions to organizational growth by participating in the growth, contributions to organisational excellence by way of significant, long-term contributions at the district or international levels, and how the person notably and publicly exemplified Toastmasters International’s core values. Another area is the type of significant public contributions outside of Toastmasters.
