Abdalla wins gold at Islamic Solidarity Games

Doha: Qatar’s Abubaker Haydar Abdalla won Qatar’s second gold medal at the 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkiye, yesterday when he clocked 47:59 secs in the men’s 800 metres final at the Konya Metropolitan Stadium.

Abdalla, ranked 32nd in the world in 800 metres this year, was joined by his fellow Qatari middle distance runner Abdirahman Hassan in yesterday’s final. Hassan missed the podium spot after finishing fourth in 48:22 secs. Sudan’s Sadam Koumi came second in 48:14 secs while Morocco’s Hafid Rizqy clinched the bronze medal in 48:22 secs.

Qatar’s first gold medal at the Konya 2021 Games came on Monday when Bassem Hemeida won the men’s 400m hurdles final.

Musab Ali comepets in the Men's 3000m steeplechase final.

Also yesterday, Qatar’s Musab Ali won the bronze medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final. Ali came third clocking 9:02:53 while Morocco’s Abderrafia Bouassel won the gold with a time of 8:57:92. Djibouti’s Mohamed Ismail Ibrahim won the silver with a time of 8:58:92.
