PSY-Q honours outgoing Pakistan embassy counsellor

Doha: Pak Youth Society-Qatar (PYS-Q) hosted farewell dinner for Counsellor Goher Riaz at Pakistan Embassy, at the Sapphire Plaza Hotel on Monday.
“Qatar grows on you; I am leaving Qatar with a heavy heart. The city of Doha and its people will always leave us with precious memories of the last three years,” said Riaz in a speech. He completed his tenure this month after serving here since 2013.
Hosted by Tahir Mahmood Chaudhary, Founder and former president, PYS, the event was chaired by Pakistan Chargé d’Affaires Wajid Hasan Hashmi.
Riaz’s successor Counsellor Rizwan Manzoor; CWA Hafiz Junaid Siyal; Defence Attaché Irfan Taj; Counsellor Mustafa Kamal; Commercial Attaché Arbab Qaisar; Chief Patron, PSY-Q Shahzad Ahmed Mughal; prominent guests and community members were present. Riaz, as a wonderful diplomat, established a relationship of trust and respect with the community since he took over.
In his welcoming remarks,  Asghar reminded the guests of how it has been a custom of PYS to send off outgoing community members with pleasant memories and enthusiastically welcome new embassy officials. He expressed gratitude to everyone for joining hands with PYS to bid farewell to Riaz and welcomed two new diplomats — Siyal and Taj. Qazi congratulated Shahzad and thanked him for accepting to be the new Chief Patron of PYS-Q.
Speakers included Rana Anwar Ali from Dukhan community; community leader Janan Khan Bhangash; Adeel Akbar, General Secretary, PAS; Feroz Khan Afridi, Chief Patron, Pak Pashtu Adbi Tolana; and Sher Ali from Halq-e-Ahbaab. Siyal expressed his best wishes to Riaz after inviting community members to approach him for everything he can be useful for.
Riaz thanked PYS-Q for the honour and said the Pakistani community in Qatar as one of the most benevolent communities.
It was the first event hosted by PYS since the restructuring of its steering committee. Earlier in the evening, the new steering committee was named. In addition to Mughal as Chief Patron, new executives are Jangrez Khan; Sohaib Qazi; Hafeezullah (Vice-President); Saad Javed (General Secretory); Qamar Rasheed Grewal (Joint Secretary); Mohammed Irfan Haider Grewal (Communication Secretary); and Salman Tahir (Press Secretary). PYS-Q also honoured Qazi Mohamed Asghar with ‘Lifetime President of PYS-Q’ in recognition of his devotion to and efforts  towards for the society.
