DOHA: Qatar National Import and Export Co (QNIE) sponsored a Food Safety Seminar throwing light on world-class practices within the meat processing and supply chain industry.
The seminar, held on Tuesday at Crowne Plaza Doha, was presented by leading research and development experts from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) Limited. Dr David Beatty, International Business Manager for MLA-MENA, and Tarek Ibrahim, Corporate Master Chef and Business Development Manager, MLA, and celebrity chef of Fatafeat TV fame, chaired the seminar.
“As one of the largest food import and distribution firms in Qatar, we consider it our responsibility to provide safe, nutritious, wholesome and quality products as well as world-class services to our customers and their consumers,” said Sameer Mazhar, Senior HR and Adminstration Manager for QNIE. “This seminar is yet another step towards ensuring quality meat import and consumption in Qatar,” he added.
Dr Beatty briefed the food industry professionals on the safe and hygienic handling of red meat and its various attributes. He said, “Australia is known globally as a great food producing nation and is recognised for its integrity in the supply of meat, including Halal certified red meat. Australia exports more than 60pc of the red meat it produces and is a global leader in meat science, technology, research and development.” He said that Qatar is a valuable importer of Australian meat and livestock, with the market showing continuous growth. “It’s a privilege to be invited to Doha, to work with QNIE and to present and share knowledge with Qatari authorities and the food industry”, he said.
Chef Tarek Ibrahim gave a presentation on the excellence of Australian red meat processing.
Ibrahim spoke about his own experiences in Australia, of visiting various farms and meat processing facilities, affirming Australia’s Halal integrity as one of the finest in the world.
