DOHA: Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) in which Qataris own 51 percent stake are also eligible to apply for retail space at Al Furjan shopping centres being set up in 44 places in the country’s remote areas.
Online registration for the allotment begins this morning and ends late on May 25 evening, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce said in a statement yesterday. Applicants are required to register at aswaq.mec.gov.qa
Allotment for 645 shops at 44 centres is to be decided through electronic raffle to be held publicly, said the ministry.
Applicants must ensure that they apply for the line of business for which they hold valid licence and registration, and must provide a bank bond for QR50,000 addressed to Qatar Development Bank (QDB). The bond is to be issued through a bank “endorsed” by the state. Shop rent is fixed at QR6,000 monthly based on recommendations of Qatar Chamber, the representative body of the private sector.
The 44 shopping centres will have outlets for hairdressing (for men), beauty salons (at some select places), laundries, bakeries, meat sale, grocery stores and supermarkets, fruits and vegetables, sanitaryware, electrical appliances and electronics and repair, cafeterias and restaurants, pharmacies and tailoring for men, and for women at some places.
Some areas will have shopping centres with additional outlets for photo studio, footwear and clothing, carpentry, toy shop, stationery with photocopying facilities, fish vending, Ooreddoo and Vodafone services and post offices, ice cream parlour and facilities selling tamween products (subsidised food items for citizens).
The maximum number of shopping centres will be in Rowdat Hamam (12) with at least one having 30 outlets.
Qatifa will have the second largest number of centres (seven), followed by Rowdat Akdeem (six). The minimum number of centres will be in Al Ib (two) — one with 10 outlets and the other with 19.
One of the shopping centres in Rowdat Al Hamam is to have four shops, including a photo studio. Al Thumama is to have four centres and one of them is to have a florist’s shop and an outlet for chocolates. Parts of Doha and Al Rayyan and areas like Al Dhaayin, Qatifa, Jariyan Nojaima, Rowdat Al Hamam, Al Thumaid, Om Al Saneem and Al Miiad are included in the project.
