DOHA: Director General of Public Security (DGPS) Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi opened 29th Gulf Traffic Week activities being at Darb Al Sai ground near Sports Roundabout.
After the DGPS cut the ribbon marking the launch of activities, a parade was performed by the police music band followed by units of police canines, cavalry and camels.
Staff Major General Al Khulaifi and guests then headed to the tent to watch artistic performances by children. Major Mukheem Al Khayareen, head of media and traffic awareness, delivered a speech on behalf of Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the Traffic Department.
“Today we celebrate the 29th Gulf Traffic Week embodying the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation among the GCC countries in the face of common concerns and challenges to establish rules and etiquette of traffic and spread traffic awareness through public participation,” the director said.
He added that more joint efforts are required to ensure traffic safety noting that the department tries in partnership with various government and private entities to get out the best solutions for traffic issues.
Talib Afifa, a victim of traffic accident presented a poem explaining the tragedies of those ignoring traffic rules and manners. Students from Abdullah Al Mahmoud School, Sumayya Primary Independent School for Girls and Malik bin Anas School presented cultural events.
An awareness stage show called Saloom & Radar enthralled the audience well. The script was written by Teyseer Abdullah and the play was directed by Ali Al-Sharshini.
Later, the DGPS and the visiting delegations took a tour of various stalls set up by companies, ministries and other entities.
