DOHA: Arab Youth Venture Foundation (AYVF) introduced its innovative STEaM (science, technology, engineering, math plus ‘a’ for aerospace) Educator Training in Qatar recently.
American and European space education experts conducted interactive activities using Nasa-created educational content in high-energy and interactive sessions for teachers to open up new frontiers and add dynamic dimensions to extra-curricular classroom lessons and after-school learning.
AYVF’s newest GCC alliance partner, The Youth Company, operated by enthusiastic youth under the leadership of its dynamic founder, Mohamed Farid, facilitated the programme by gathering educators for the Qatar sessions.
Being a social enterprise for youth development, The Youth Company believes in the importance of unconventional approach to education and is proud to support initiatives, which enhance curiosity and imagination of young people, a press release said yesterday.
The sessions developed for 75 qualified Doha pre-school to Grade 12 math, science and ICT educators were sponsored by the Boeing International Corp.
“Education that includes inspirational and alluring space- related projects and exercises that stimulate a student’s curiosity and imagination are extremely effective towards the retention of lessons while allowing students to interact and learn in a fun, practical environment and find solutions to real-world challenges using math and science,” according to Lisa LaBonte, CEO of AYVF.
AYVF’s next training is a one- week intensive US-based Space Education Training for K-12 Educators in March and April at two Nasa centres.
