Doha: Officials from the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Directorate of Traffic visited outlets for renting desert buggies and monitored the activities of dune bashing to educate riders and children about safety rules.

Awareness competitions were organised to spread the culture of traffic safety and gifts were distributed to the contestants.

This was part of the awareness campaign launched by the General Traffic Department on the occasion of the camping season under the slogan ‘I walk safely’ for the year 2020-21.

The buggy riders were asked to adhere to safety rules in order to avoid accidents and not being reckless, especially children and youth who practice this hobby.

The officials asked riders to wear a helmet and safety jackets, and not to drive buggies on the paved roads, keep seat belts fastened while driving, in addition to adhering to the number of passengers allowed.

Parents were urged to monitor their children while driving buggies. The officials asked outlets to not rent buggies after sunset. The Traffic Awareness Department is working within the framework of an awareness plan throughout the camping season in order to achieve the required goals, most notably the reduction of traffic accidents.

The department registered its presence during dune bashing activities at the Sealine and buggy rental outlets in order to communicate with the public directly about the importance of safety rules.

Captain Abdul Wahid Ghareeb Al Anezi asked buggy riders to adhere to traffic safety requirements by wearing a helmet and fastening a seat belt while driving. National flags and souvenirs were distributed to children.

“Parents should monitor their children while riding a buggy, whether in the camps or on desert,” Al Anzi said.

Traffic Awareness Department in cooperation with the Mawater Center monitored the activities of  the Sealine and Khor Al Udaid area.

Lieutenant Hamad Salem Al Nahab, an officer in the Traffic Awareness Department said: “The Traffic Awareness Department provide advice and safety messages to the participants. We are educating them about the necessity of wearing safety gears before snorkeling.”
