Doha: Eternals, the latest superhero film, is not to be screened in Qatar and Saudi Arabian theatres, media reports said. As per The Hollywood Reporter (THR) the film was slotted to release on November 11 in the region.
None of the Doha theatres or booking sites have the movie listed for screening
According to the media reports Marvel was not ready to make the cuts proposed by the censors. The movie has some intimate scenes between gay characters and this made many countries in the region to ban the movie.
Some United Arab Emirates theatres have still listed the movie and is accepting reservation for the same.
The report quoted a regional cinema chain saying that Eternals had been “banned” but said they hadn’t been told why.
Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals stars an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.
