New basement parking lot at Souq Waqif opens today

Two new underground parking lots at Souq Waqif will open today.
"This state-of-the-art parking lot will serve motorists' needs at Souq Waqif, the prime tourism, cultural and heritage destination of the city," said Engineer Faisal Abdullah Al Dosari, Head, Special Projects Department, Private Engineering Office in a press conference yesterday.
The project includes three sections, one allocated for car parking having space for 650 vehicles that will also cater to elderly people and persons with special needs.
The underground parking area has entrance and exit from Msheireb and falcon market, and is also equipped with security cameras.
The underground facility also houses a complex having five cinema halls that can accommodate 80 to 100 persons and is expected to be operative in the third quarter of next year.
He also mentioned that the ground section of western Souq Waqif parking-lot consists of open area for people for marking celebrations and festivals and is equipped with all necessary equipment.
The project also includes 12 automated payment devices and 10 electric elevators, two of them in the cinema area.
Al Dosari said the parking lot consists of fire alarms, and 9 emergency entrance and exists.
Visitors can also pay in cash and by card. The parking fee, he said, was reasonable and no one was allowed to park more than 24 hours for security reasons.
