EAA and Awqaf celebrate 500-scholarship milestone, honour students, graduates

Doha, Qatar: Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, a global foundation for education and development, in partnership with the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf) yesterday honoured graduates, academically outstanding students and welcomed the eighth cohort of beneficiaries of the Qatar Scholarships Programme, which completed 500 scholarships.

Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater honoured 45 graduates of the programme; and additionally 55 academically outstanding students were recognised during the event held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.

The event was also graced by Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti; Director General of the General Directorate of Endowments, Eng. Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzouqi; Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the State of Qatar H E Faiz Majed Abu Al Rub; Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the State of Qatar, H E Rajeh Hussein Farhan Badi; and Ambassador of the Republic of India to the State of Qatar H E Vipul as well as representatives of partner universities and institutions.

The Qatar Scholarship Programme, affiliated with EAA, supports non-Qatari resident students from underserved families by providing scholarships through partnerships with local higher education institutions, helping them pursue their academic and career goals.

The event marked a key milestone for the Qatar Scholarships Programme achieving its target of 500 scholarships and reaffirming the commitment of EAA and its partners to expanding equitable access to higher education. Supported by the General Directorate of Endowments through its partnership with EAA, the programme continues to empower young people and support resident students in pursuing their academic and professional aspirations.

Chief Executive Officer of Education Above All Foundation,  Mohammed Saad Al Kubaisi said,  “At this event we celebrate the achievements of our students and renew our commitment to empowering young people through quality education. The programme’s achievement of its strategic target of 500 scholarships reflects the strength of the partnership with the General Directorate of Endowments, , in addition to the support of the programme’s partner universities.

The partner universities include Qatar University, University of Doha for Science and Technology,Qatar Foundation including Texas A&M University at Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Northwestern University in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, Lusail University, Oryx University in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, Qatar Finance and Business Academy in partnership with Northumbria University, Al-Rayan International University College in partnership with the University of Derby, Global Studies Institute in partnership with Arkansas State University, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, City University Qatar in partnership with Ulster University.

“We believe that every student who receives a fair opportunity to access higher education represents a new story of hope and an additional step towards more inclusive and sustainable development,” Al Kubaisi added.

Support from the General Directorate of Endowments is provided through the Waqf Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development, which channels returns from invested waqf assets to educational initiatives in line with the wishes and conditions of the endowers.

Director General of the General Directorate of Endowments, Eng. Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzouqi said, “Education is the cornerstone of societal progress and the most important pathway to empower youth and open new horizons for them. Guided by this vision, the General Directorate of Endowments works to support educational opportunities for students across various disciplines, reaffirming its mission to promote knowledge and innovation in a way that strengthens investment in human capital.” 

“The Qatar Scholarship Programme is a practical example of the impact of waqf in supporting education and empowering students. The programme has successfully reached the milestone of 500 scholarships in collaboration with Education Above All Foundation and partner universities and institutions,” he added.
