Hong Kong---Hong Kong stocks rose 0.21 percent in the morning session Wednesday, while Shanghai retreated after market analysis provider MSCI delayed including the market in its index of global benchmarks.
The Hang Seng Index added 55.98 points to 27,045.05 by the break, on turnover of HK$66.86 billion ($8.63 billion).
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slid 0.45 percent, or 22.82 points, to 5,090.71.
But the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, advanced 1.24 percent, or 37.15 points, to 3,032.00.
