Doha: Qatar Friendship Fund (QFF) yesterday signed four agreements in Tunis, including one with the Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment, and the others with three establishments.
The deals were signed by Qatari Ambassador Abdullah bin Nasser Al Humaidi, also Chairman, QFF, Tunisian Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Hafedh Lamouri, and representatives of the establishments.
They aim to encourage Tunisian youth to launch private projects through funding mechanisms, mentoring and coaching.
In a statement, Al Humaidi hoped the new partnerships will accelerate achievements of QFF and its partners for the benefit of Tunisian youth.
He said the joining of new partners would have a positive impact on Tunisian youth, especially those in remote areas, pointing out that the partnerships reflected the extent of mutual trust between the Qatari and Tunisian peoples.
He said the achievements were due to previous agreements between QFF and Tunisian partners, adding that the deal with the Bank of SMEs led to the launch of about 146 projects.
The agreement with Tunisia Entrepreneurship Network allowed QFF to open six offices in as many areas in the northern, central and southern Tunisia, and support 80 projects which will provide about 1,030 jobs by the end of this year, he said, adding that last September saw the launch of a new information and communication technology system at a cost of 28m Tunisian dinars ($18m).
Lamouri said the new agreements would boost cooperation between QFF and Tunisian partners and encourage private initiative among Tunisian youth.
