DOHA: The Minister of Education and Higher Education, H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, inaugurated yesterday the pavilion of the Ministry at the 30th Doha International Book Fair.
The Book Fair which opened yesterday at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) will continue until January 18. H E the Minister said the objective of setting up a pavilion at the Book Fair is to support extra-curricular activities, which aim at developing the community intellectually and culturally.
He also said that the activities of the Ministry's pavilion is also designed to encourage students on reading by creating love for books in their hearts. The Minister stressed that the Pavilion of the Ministry is distinguished every year with a new and unique look as various and interesting programmes will be held for all members of the families.
The Minister said that the role of Qatari youth is increasing significantly, as this appears through the spread of Qatari publishing houses, the rise in the numbers of writers, publishers of stories, novels, research studies and other new publications that were presented for the first time in this year’s Book Fair.
H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi said that the modern education curricula that are applied in the schools in Qatar requires students for research and reading and relying on other educational resources in order to encourage them to learn from different sciences and not be bound by the textbook.
The Minister urged parents to visit the Book Fair with their children to enjoy the activities at the Ministry pavilion and also to take a field tour inside Book Fair to get acquainted with their taste in choosing books and stories and learn about their tendencies and aspirations.
Imad Khamayseh from the Learning Resources Department of the Curricula and Learning Resources Department at the Ministry said that the Ministry over several years, consistently participated in the Doha International Book Fair, through several activities including allocating a special corner for children.
He said that the Ministry’s participation in Book Fair for this year was different because of the participation of a group of schools with the Ministry. The activities at the Pavilion of the Ministry on Thursday included the activity of (The Strangest Books Between Past and Present) supervised by teacher Nada Jamal Al Turini from Fatima Bint Al Khattab Elementary School for Girls.
