Over 2,500 new companies registered in December 2017

Doha: A total of 2,572 new companies were registered in December 2017, said the Ministry of Economy and Commerce yesterday. According to the Ministry’s Business Progress Report on the Commerce Sector for December 2017, the number of new major business records reached 2,056, while the number of new sub-registries reached 516 records.

Limited liability companies accounted for 63 percent of the major business registers, while the category of single owner limited liability companies in second place with 27 percent, and the individual institution came in third place with 9 percent. During the month of December, construction companies topped the list of the most registered activities, with 1,507 registrations followed by restaurants, cafeterias and ice cream shops (1,067), while groceries came third with 962 businesses registered in December 2017.

The Ministry also issued 899 trade registers for trading in public goods, and 872 others for construction materials trading.

According to the report. the number of commercial licenses issued, modified or renewed during December was 6659, the number of licenses issued by the Ministry reached 1304 licenses, while 858 licenses were amended, and 4,977 licenses were renewed.

The number of companies closed during last December was 324 companies, and the proportion of closed companies of new companies was 12.5 percent. In the field of Intellectual Property Rights, the report pointed out that the number of new patent applications last December reached 63 applications, and 178 patent applications have been renewed.

The number of trademark applications registered last month was 3,701, in addition to 12 certificates issued in the field of copyright and neighbouring rights.
