H E the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said that the National Day is not a normal day for the Qatari people and the State, or an occasion to recall or commemorate a memory, it is a day that consolidates the feeling of belonging to this good land and loyalty to the wise leadership which derives from the past the most beautiful meanings of pride and dignity and tirelessly pursues the path of progress and prosperity towards a bright present and a great future.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, Minister Al Kaabi said that by celebrating this precious day we renew the pledge of loyalty to the homeland and to work together to bolster the foundations laid by the Founder for a better future and further splendor and glory, under the wise leadership of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Minister noted that the Ministry of Energy and Qatar Petroleum adopt Qatar National Vision 2030 which is based on the rational management of abundant hydrocarbon resources to ensure that living standards are raised for present and future generations.
He added that the energy sector in the country, led by Qatar Petroleum and its group of companies and projects, worked on the management and investment of the State’s hydrocarbon resources in order to achieve sustainable development and convert these natural resources into financial wealth that supports the development of human resources and building the State’s economic capabilities.
He said that this vision has been put into consideration when implementing many strategic projects in various sectors of the oil and gas industry, whether in the field of production, prospecting and exploration or in the petrochemical projects. At the forefront of these efforts comes the expansion project of the North Field, which will raise the production capacity of LNG from 77 million to 126 million tonnes per year.
He added that Qatar Petroleum is currently working on a project to build and operate a new global petrochemicals complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City with a production capacity of one million and 900 thousand tons per year, in order to maximize the benefit of ethane produced from the various North Field projects. He explained that the petrochemicals complex project will include two high-density polyethylene units with a production capacity of one million tons each. The project is expected to start production in 2025.
Meanwhile, Al Kaabi said that QP has adopted a global expansion strategy that embodies the vision of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to expand and enhance Qatar’s leading role in the field of energy at the global level. Together with its partners, QP carried out prospecting and exploration projects in a number of South American and African countries, as well as the Eastern Mediterranean and the Arabian Sea.
