Doha: Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. (AAB), the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar held a community Upcycling Event to kick off the Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW). The event welcomed community participants who upcycled old and used tyres into ottomans or low seats.

Excess pallets from packaging material were turned into tea coasters, mobile phone holders and cat-scratchers for pet lovers. Being a family-friendly event, children were able to express their creativity and artistic skills by designing on the pallets.

Limited number of families and volunteers were present due to social distancing and health measures which were strictly in place during the event. In line with the Qatar Sustainability Week activities, the event was made more significant with the participants’ personal pledges on how to play their individual role for a better tomorrow.

Such pledges included conserving resources in terms of water, food, transportation and electricity.  Everyone is encouraged to register their pledge by visiting the Qatar Green Building Council website.

AAB has been very active in recycling excess packaging materials by turning them into functional items, which is a major component of its Internal Sustainable Practices. Beginning the journey towards sustainability, AAB Green Team consisting of AAB employees as its volunteers was established about five years ago.

Since its formation, the AAB Green Team has produced functional furniture and storage material made up of pallets that are being used in the various locations of the company.

AAB is fully committed to giving back to the community through its CSR initiatives and environmental awareness programmes as one of its major CSR pillars is focused on caring for the environment.

This commitment is reflected on its support to programmes geared towards a Green Qatar.  Its continuing partnership with the Public Parks Department in the Seedlings to your Home and Reduction of Carbon Footprint projects that promote environmental care reinforce and manifest AAB’s commitment and active role in contributing towards the fulfilment of Qatar National Vision 2030.
