PHCC launches Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Training Programme

DOHA: Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC)’s Workforce Development and Training (WFDT) Directorate has launched the Ambulatory Clinical Pharmacy Training Programme recently.

This training programme is a milestone for the Clinical Pharmacy service to be the first and unique service to be introduced in the region and the Middle East.

Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, Managing Director, PHCC and several other officials and gusts were present at the launch event held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Doha. It was introduced in collaboration with the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (CU SSPPS).

“The programme is a 24-week training in which learning will be achieved via self-directed, team-based and expert-guided instructions. It will allow PHCC’s experienced pharmacists to build upon their foundational skills and acquired understanding of pharmacy practice,” said Layla Al Jasmi, Assistant Executive Director, WFDT Directorate, PHCC.

“The programme has been established to support our vision for a highly motivated and skilled health care workforce. It also proves PHCC’s commitment towards QNV 2030 to have health care professionals who can lead service improvement and enhanced services, through our dedicated Qatari and long term workforce,” she added.

With the commitment to deliver lifelong professional learning and development in primary health care in Qatar, PHCC has developed a comprehensive Learning and Development Strategy for the next five years. It aims for a sustainable healthcare workplace development plans and reinforcing professional learning, development and education for all healthcare professionals across PHCC, including pharmacists.

“The Clinical Pharmacists in PHCC are fundamental to the success of the Family Medicine Model of Care across PHCC Health Centers. They optimize medication management and safety, greatly contributing to improvement of the health outcomes of our patients, families and communities,” said Al Jasmi.

PHCC-WFDT is advocating the importance of developing a highly skilled pharmacy workforce and this planned development will ensure that our pharmacists are equipped with the right skills, experience and knowledge for better health, better care and better value, as driven by NHS 2.0 for our priority health populations.
