Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has opened registration for competitors who are looking for a chance to show off their skills and strength to take part in the renowned clash of the giants in the Qatar Strongest Man (QSM 2017) competition.
Now in its fifth year, men aged 18-year-old and above will be selected through rigorous tests to showcase their strength and endurance in a series of challenges during a two-day event in two categories: the “Open” competition for members of the community, and the “Qatari only” competition on November 24 and 25.
With the success of its previous edition and expecting more participants, the organisers have announced the event has been expanded to run for two days.
“AZF has decided to take in more participants this year to expand interest and to promote the culture of physical activity amongst members of the community,” Ibrahim Al Hilal, Member of the QSM Organising Committee, said.
“The 2016 edition generated very positive feedback, and the surge of QSM popularity has encouraged AZF to take rivalry to a higher level, thus, extending the challenge over two days in two categories”, he added.
“I call on those who never participated to come and put their hidden powers to the test in a very entertaining and competitive environment at Aspire Zone Foundation. I am sure we will see new faces this year competing for the title of the strongest man in Qatar”, Al-Hilal concluded.
Following registration, entrants will be invited to go through a series of rigorous health and physical tests where the fastest participant to complete 200-kg-weight lifts and a 20-metre Farmer’s Walk carrying 120kg weights in each arm will qualify to the final round. The big day will include challenges such as cargo truck pulling, heavy sandbag lifting, giant wheel flipping, and Farmer’s Walk carrying heavy weights in each hand.
Last year’s edition was an unprecedented success attracting more than 131 entrants. However, only 14 qualified to the final stage where Fahad Al Haddad (Qatar), and Christopher Oketch (Kenya) emerged as champions. On the sidelines of the two-day competition, AZF will also organise community activities for all family members to enjoy as they watch participants. Activities will include a fan zone and a playing area for kids, as well as a variety of local food and beverage stands.
