LONDON: Former England captain and head coach Martin Johnson was yesterday banned from driving after being found guilty of speeding at over 100 miles per hour (161 kilometres per hour).
The 43-year-old, who captained England to World Cup glory in 2003, was pulled over by police in Somerset, southwest England, in August after being recorded driving at a speed of 103 miles per hour.
He admitted a charge of speeding and was disqualified from driving for 49 days.
“Mr Johnson was travelling at 103 miles per hour on the M5 (motorway) between junction 23 and 22 at Puriton in Somerset,” said a court spokeswoman. “Mr Johnson entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity. He was fined £800 ($1,290, 950 euros), costs of £35 and a victim surcharge of £80,” the spokeswoman said. AFP
