Three-day Milipol Qatar expo opens

DOHA: Milipol Qatar 2012, a major exhibition in the security sector opened yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Centre bringing in defence products from around the world with major representation from UAE. 

The international exhibition for suppliers of products and services in the internal state security was inaugurated by H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of State for Interior Affairs and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, UAE, under the auspices of the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. 

The three-day exhibition is a major event in the security sector which has participation from Middle East, Africa, South America and Asia. 

“This is a very important event for Qatar and a global exhibition  with countries participating from all over the world. This year the participation has increased, especially with countries from Asia and South America,” Minister Al Thani told the journalists on the sidelines of the exhibition. 

The opening ceremony was attended by many ministers, officials and guests from friendly countries. 

The Milipol is one of the most important exhibitions in the Middle East and its being held every two years in Qatar and alternatively with Milipol France. 

From the beginning in 1996, the Milipol Qatar has seen an increase in number of exhibitors. 

The ninth edition of Milipol being held is showcasing products of 265 companies from 38 countries. A total of 11 countries are participating for the first time including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, and South Korea. 

There are four new pavilions allocated for Brazil, Pakistan, Jordan and UAE pavilions. These are in addition to four main pavilions such as American, German, Check and French Pavilion. The UAE pavilion named Tawazun Holding and the French pavilion are set for this edition. 

Tawazun Holding, a strategic investment firm based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is making its first appearance at the Milipol Qatar with a broader strategy to target Qatar’s and the Middle East region’s defense market. Tawazun as the main exhibitor is joining a number of UAE based companies the pavilion being hosted by the exhibition. Its premier presence at the military and security trade show will see it showcase the latest products and solutions on offer for the market in the field of homeland security, safety and infrastructure protection. 

With a large array of offerings and diverse portfolio, Tawazun brings a number of its increasingly acclaimed ‘Made in the UAE’ defense products. Among the products on display, Tawazun is showcasing Caracal Light Ammunition’s (CLA) new shot shell ammunition line which is the first-of-its-kind being manufactured in the Middle East and which caters to the sport shooting market.
