DUBAI: Output from Iran's Forouzan offshore oilfield is set to more than double to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) by next March, after two additional production platforms are installed, oil ministry news service Shana said on Monday.
Development of Iran's part of the field, which it shares with Kuwait, will also increase gas production by more than 250 million cubic feet or 7 million cubic metres per day, Shana said.
Iran currently produces 20,000-40,000 bpd of oil via two production platforms at the field and hopes to double production by injecting gas to increase well pressure.
Amir Saeed Najafi, deputy head of the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company, told Shana that the contract to build the two new platforms had been assigned to a foreign partner.
He did not name the company.
The Forouzan project is to pump the associated gas by pipeline to a natural gas liquids facility at Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export terminal. (Reuters)
