Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by Fisheries Resources Department has released 20,000 small Hamour fish in the Qatari marine waters.
The said quantity is the first batch produced by the Aquatic Research Centre opened in Ras Matbakh.

The programme is in collaboration with the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security of the Ministry of Interior.
The operation of releasing small Hamour fish comes in order to enrich the local fish through fish farming and release it in Qatari waters to contribute to increasing the stock of these species that positively reflect on production.

The program is part of the second national development strategy 2018/2022 for natural resources, and is supervised by the Fisheries Resources Department, which aims to farm locally desired economic fish species and release of larvae in national waters to enrich the stocks of those types of fish which will contribute to achieving requirements food security.
The Aquatic Research Centre, which is key to country’s food security, plays a strategic role in developing Qatar’s fisheries wealth.
