DOHA: The Consumer Protection Department (CPD) at the Ministry of Economy and Trade has set up a hotline for consumers to lodge complaints against outlets violating the fair price list on food and non-food items during Ramadan.
People have been urged to call on the toll free number 8005000, hotline numbers 4494550, 44945500 and landline number of the ministry 44945555 against violating shops. They can also send text messages on 92665 or fax at 44932004 or send email at [email protected], a release issued by the Ministry said.
Consumers can also approach Department in person with written complaints attached with necessary documents.
The applicant should mention his full name, address, profession, name of erring outlet, its address, business activity, type of violation and the damages the caused by the violation. It is also required to produce a copy of the receipt of the product because without proper documents it would be very difficult for CPD to track the outlets.
The Minister of Economy and Trade, H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, issued decision number 30 for 2013 for discount price list for foods and non-food items for the fasting month.
The decision is attached with a list of 320 commodities on which a price freeze has been imposed.
This includes wheat flour, sugars, rice, edible oils, milks, frozen chicken, juices, pastries and frozen vegetables in the food category and the non-food items include wrappers, tissue papers and other cleaning items.
The Minister urged people to inform the CPD if they find any outlet violating this decision. The civic inspectors of the ministry will launch inspection drive on the outlets to ensure they are complying with the fair price list.
As per the discounted price list, a five kilogram packet of QMF flour number (1and 2) is available on QR16 and number 3 will be sold on QR19.
However, the price of same quantity of flour bag of Kuwait for all purpose is fixed at QR19.50.
The edible oils, sunflower Olite of 1.5 liters is available on QR14.50, Sunflower oil of Noor, Mazola of 1.8 liters are ceiled at QR16.50 and QR17.50 respectively and Corn oil of Noor and Mozola of 1.8 liters are fixed at QR 19.25.
Prices of full and low fat as well fresh and long life milks of Al Marai and only low fate fresh milk of Nadec and low fate milk of Al Safi of two liters are QR10, full fate of nadec of 1.75 liters are available on QR8.50 and long life milk of nadec for four liters are QR12.25.
