Minister of Public Health, Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, and HMC leaders and facility CEOs with the team from Joint Commission International who carried out the accreditation surveys across HMC, pose for a group picture.
Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has announced its greatest international accreditation success to date with thirteen of its facilities and services being accredited by US-based Joint Commission International (JCI).
This includes accreditation for the first time for three new hospitals as well as the Hamad Dental Center and Mental Health Service. Eight hospitals which already held JCI accreditation were also successfully re-accredited.
This represents the greatest number of JCI accredited facilities in Qatar to date and the culmination of HMC’s largest ever hospital accreditation program. HMC also remains the only hospital system outside of the United States to achieve corporate Academic Medical Center accreditation for all its hospitals simultaneously. JCI Accreditation is seen as the gold standard for the accreditation of hospitals worldwide and the latest edition of their quality and safety standards and measures which hospitals must meet to achieve accreditation are the most exacting to date. Hospitals must meet strict patient safety and performance improvement standards to achieve accreditation status and these are rigorously checked before accreditation is granted.
The JCI team has been surveying HMC for the last three months and the accreditation announcement is the culmination of a rigorous process which has involved staff from every part of the Corporation.
Minister of Public Health and Managing Director of HMC H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari was present when the accreditation announcement was made.
Commenting on this achievement, the Minister said: “The quality of healthcare in Qatar continues to improve year-on-year. Today’s accreditation success is another example of the quality of care in Qatar being recognized internationally and HMC - as the main provider of secondary and tertiary care in the country - is central to this.”
The Minister added: “HMC remains the only hospital system outside of the United States to achieve JCI Corporate Academic Medical Center accreditation for all of its hospitals simultaneously and achieving this for 12 facilities as well as Hamad Dental Center accreditation is no easy task.
This prestigious international accreditation is incredibly challenging to achieve and maintain. The commitment of each one of HMC’s staff and their focus on delivering the highest standard of care to our patients is a great testament to this achievement.”
Dr Badriya Al Ali, Deputy Chief Quality Officer for Hamad Medical Corporation whose team was central to the management of JCI accreditation across HMC reiterated the Minister’s sentiments.
She said: “The announcement by the JCI surveyors of HMC’s accreditation success demonstrates the consistently high standards of care being delivered across HMC. This achievement is even more significant when we consider that our National Ambulance Service and Home Healthcare service are also already accredited by JCI and our Stroke and Palliative Care Programs are JCI certified.”
