The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) is targeting to bring 2,000 services of government departments online by the end of this year which will make it easy for residents of Qatar to access such services. The Ministry aims to bring all the services of government online by 2020, said a senior official of MOTC, yesterday.
“We have 1,660 e-services at the end of last year and we are targeting 2,000 services by end of this year. Overall, the objective is to get all the government services online by 2020,” Hassan Jassim Al Sayed, Assistant Undersecretary for Government Program and Information technology at MOTC told The Peninsula on the sidelines of Qatar Digital Government Forum 2017.
Of the total 2,000 e- services, 1,300 services will be made available on internet while 700 will be made available on mobile, he added.
Officials of different government departments and private sector participated in the forum held at The Four Seasons Hotel.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani had launched Qatar e-Government 2020 strategy back in May 2014.
It involves a comprehensive system to complete the digital transformation of the government through establishing the digital infrastructure and government applications.
Speakers from different government department presented the strategies of their ministries in the field of digital government and the progress made so far.
The participants also discussed the role of the e-government steering committee.
Al Sayed said that the steering committee has been working hard since its inception in 2013 to encourage all government authorities to place their digital plans.
Due these efforts, the number of digital services offered by the government has increased.
Of the total 1,660 services available online, a total of 1,079 were offered on Internet and 581 were offered on mobile. The total number of digital transactions increased from six million in 2014, to 128 million by the end of March 2017, he said.
