Port Louis, Mauritius - Javi Colomo hailed the shot of his life after he became the first European or Asian Tour player to hit a hole in one on a par-four to make the cut at the Mauritius Open.

The Spaniard, needing to birdie his final hole to reach the weekend rounds, produced the perfect drive for an albatross on the 329-yard ninth on Friday.

Colomo and his wife Cristina, who was caddying for him, initially did not realise what had happened despite the shouts coming from the ninth green.

"First time in my life I hit an unbelievable driver, very high with a little cut," the 31-year-old said, in comments released by organisers.

"I tried to stop the ball on the green and the ball found the hole. I needed a birdie to make the cut, double eagle (albatross) is just fantastic."

Colomo added: "We couldn't see (the ball go in the hole). But we heard some guys shouting.

"We thought the ball was very close but when we were on the fairway, we couldn't see the ball on the green.

"And then one guy told me that the ball was in the hole. It was a perfect shot."

A US$1 million villa will go to the first golfer who shoots an eagle at the par-four 17th during the final round, and an albatross at the par-five 18th will earn a Jaguar car.

"Now, I know what to do, maybe I will try for sure on those holes," smiled Colomo, who signed for a two-under-par 69 and 141 total for a share of 36th place.
