DOHA: Integrated energy giant ‘TOTAL’ has announced that the North Africa Division of its Exploration and Production (E&P) activities has been transferred to the Middle East Division, effective from April 1.
In a press statement yesterday, company said that the consolidated entity has been renamed the Middle East-North Africa Division (Mena) and is headed by Stéphane Michel, the Middle East-North Africa President. Jean-Daniel Blasco, Vice-President North Africa, now reports to him. Michel said: “This transfer enables the integrated management of our E&P operations in two highly strategic regions for Total – the Middle East and North Africa which both have strong cultural ties as well as close economic relationships, notably in the oil and gas sector. Total has enjoyed long-standing and mutually beneficial relationships with countries across the Mena region, and we will be looking to develop these relationships further through this reorganisation. This should also allow us to address the challenges of E&P growth more effectively and to make the most of the many synergies in our Mena operations.”
In North Africa, Total has E&P activities in Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania. Total’s production from Algeria and Libya amounted respectively to 21,000 and 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2013.
Combined with the Middle East production from the UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Iraq and Oman, the Mena region accounted for or 26.4 percent of the group’s worldwide oil and gas production. The Peninsula
