Doha: Ministry of Commerce and Industry has called on cafe and restaurants to comply with relevant regulations and laws.

The Ministry made this statement as it observed that some cafes and restaurants have advertised that drinks and liquids are sold in inappropriate bottles [feeding bottles] which is against the local customs and traditions.

This came following reactions from different segments of the society on social media after a user shared pictures of beverages sold by a local café in bottles, which looked like feeding bottles for babies.

This phenomenon was reported in some other Gulf countries and was ridiculed and condemned on social media, prompting authorities in many countries to act against this practice.

According to media reports Oman, Dubai and Kuwait has stopped cafés from serving drinks in baby bottles to customers as it is against "local customs". In some GCC states, it was reported that customers had been bringing their own bottles to cafes to be filled up.

After the social media storm action has been taken against these cafes.
