The Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) yesterday held seminar in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to introduce its role in enhancing protection of human rights in the Arab region. The seminar aims to open new horizons for future partnership with all interested entities and those whose share common visions and goals, said Hamad bin Hamdan Al Rabae, a representative of ANNHRI.
"The partnership with ANNHRI is in its early stage and we are looking forward to developing it in the future," said Afarin Shahidzadeh, Deputy Director – the United Nations High Commission of Human Rights, adding that the UNHCHR is ready to support the Arab national human rights institutions to be able to carry out their responsibilities. The strategic partnership will be enhanced through training programmes and joint workshops for capacity building.
NHRC President Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, who is also a member of the Executive Committee of ANNHRI, said respect for human rights is the top duty of the ANNHRI which adopts international laws and declarations and relevant values and principles.
The network is working through all of its branches to achieve its goals by encouraging the establishment of national institutions for human rights in the Arab region and enhance their roles protecting rights.
