Doha: The Chargé d’Affaires of the United Kingdom Alex Cole extended her well wishes to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the people of Qatar on the occassion of National Sport Day (NSD) and said her government is working closely with the Qatar government on a range of issues related to the World Cup and other sporting ventures.
“Qatar is an amazing host. We are looking at ways that the UK innovation can help run and deliver the World Cup. A really good example is the FIFA World Cup 2022 countdown clock on the Corniche which was designed by a British company. It’s a small part of our bigger contribution to the whole. We are also working on security cooperation and discussing other issues, not least of which how will British fans and participants will enjoy a safe and successful tournament,” she said.
The Chargé d’Affaires also disclosed: “The UK has a really strong culture of sport. During the pandemic our sporting culture was really important to our national psychology and wellbeing. That’s a tradition that we bring here to Qatar, making sure that our culture of sport and Qatar’s great strive in the culture of sport come together to create something amazing; and we are all looking forward to take part and to watch a tremendous World Cup here later this year.”
