AMMAN: Iraq closed on Wednesday morning the Teraibeel border crossing with Jordan.

According to a statement by Jordan's General Security Directorate, the Jordanian authorities have asked citizens and private cars and freight drivers not to go to the Iraqi border until the announcement of the reopening by the Iraqi authorities.

The statement said that contacts are underway through diplomatic and security channels with the Iraqi side for coordination and following up the issue.

On Tuesday, an Iraqi source said that the decision of closing Teraibeel border with Jordan was due to trade disruptions on the international road as a result of the continuing anti-government demonstrations in Anbar province in western Iraq that started two weeks ago, demanding the release of detainees and abolishing Article 4-Terrorism and the Justice and Accountability Law beside other demands.
