Dar Al Sharq’s conference highlights role of Supply Chain Management

Assistant Undersecretary of Maritime Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri said that the Ministry of Transport has made great strides in developing the transport and communications sector in order to support the achievement of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 in economic, social, human and environmental development. He was addressing the 2nd Supply Chain Management Conference which was organised by Dar Al Sharq Under the patronage of Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti at Holiday Inn, yesterday.

He said that this conference comes in line with the Ministry’s plans to develop an integrated transport network with the aim of providing all services for transporting goods and passengers and supporting logistical services that support supply and supply chains, which enhances the security of the import and export movement of goods and contribute to supporting the economy and trade exchange of the state.

Dr. Saleh bin Fetais Al Marri said that the Ministry of Transport has also worked on developing and building new projects in the transport sector that accommodate a wide range of goods and services, and use the best systems and technologies in the world, so that society can benefit from them and be a real legacy for future generations.

He highlighted the important role being played by Hamad International Port, Doha Port, Al Ruwais Port and Hamad International Airport.

He explained that this integrated infrastructure was able, during the repercussions of COVID-19 pandemic, to continue its performance with high efficiency in securing operations and ensuring the stability of supply and supply chains.

Assistant Director General for Government Relations and Committees Affairs, at Qatar Chamber Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansouri, said Qatar had started early to develop a future strategy to develop all factors related to supply and supply chains, as the infrastructure worked, such as the construction of Hamad Port, and Hamad International Airport, Doha Port and Al Ruwais Port, in addition to the completion of road and bridge development projects.

He said the state had developed all logistics sectors by sea, land and air, and worked to overcome the obstacles and challenges that faced the supply and supply chain sector during the Corona pandemic, such as the disruption of trade movement and the suspension of airports, and these measures led to the smooth flow of trade and goods movement in the Qatari market.

The private sector was able to face the challenges and obstacles and get out of their repercussions, and its activity returned to the level before Corona.

Qatar Chamber is fully confident that the private sector will play its prominent role to the fullest.

Executive Vice President of Support Services at Milaha, Saleh Alharoon, said that the second edition of this conference confirms the strategic importance of supply and supply chains as the main artery that links the State of Qatar with the world and contributes to securing safe and sustainable lines for the flow of goods and merchandise, in order to serve the objectives of the National Food Security Strategy, in terms of securing import sources and achieving self-sufficiency in many areas.

Deputy CEO of Dar Al Sharq, Jaber Al Harami said that Dar Al Sharq Group, under the directives of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al Sharq Group Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, sought to adopt specific initiatives aimed at serving the community in its various sectors, and establishing partnerships that serve the public and private sectors.

He added that this year’s conference is one of these initiatives, through which the house sought to establish a platform that brings together stakeholders and those related to supply and supply chains, to facilitate the process of exchanging experiences, benefiting from experiences, discussing challenges, discussing developments, and foreseeing the future with new visions and ideas.

He said that the Dar Al Sharq Group is keen to gather the relevant parties in such conferences, which reflects their great importance, and raises the value of dialogue, discussion and exchange of views, in addition to promoting successful experiences and avoiding negatives, as well as working to come up with recommendations that serve the state and society as a whole.
