KATHMANDU: Police reported on Monday that an overloaded bus fell off a mountain road in Nepal, leaving 17 people dead and 50 others injured.

A police official said the bus veered off the road close to the village of Pokharakada on Sunday evening and rolled about 600 meters down a slope.

Rescue workers pulled out 14 lifeless bodies while three other victims passed away at a hospital. The bus only had 38 seats but there were 67 people on board.

It was traveling along a narrow mountain road on Sunday night when the mishap occurred.

Rescue crews toiled through the night to assist the injured passengers and transport the bodies to the main road. Police said the injured are recuperating in hospitals and about a dozen of them are in critical condition. (QNA)
