Qatar and Jersey will clash in what may be a thrilling three-match Twenty20 International Series at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Industrial Area next week.
This is the second T20 international series Qatar are figuring in after a visit by Kuwait in July.
The Qatar Cricket Association and its President Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari are always pushing hard for creating opportunities and exposures for the national teams so that they can not only play tough but also keep their level consistently high.
This tour by Jersey is just an extension of the efforts by the QCA towards providing the national T20 side a competitive chance to test itself before the future international assignments.
Kuwari said in the press release, “We’re extremely delighted that the Jersey team accepted our invitation to visit us and play the Twenty20 International Series. Both the teams are competitive and will use this opportunity to reinforce their respective teams.”
QCA Operations Manager Manzoor Ahmad said in the press release: “We’re ready to welcome the Jersey team whole-heartedly. The series has been planned to keep our national team active and battle ready for the future events that we’re going to play.
“Series such as this one allows teams not only the valuable practice but also a chance to test your players in variety to situations during matches. From that point of view, the Jersey tour is going to be very important for us,” he added.
Under the captaincy of Charles Perchard, the 14-player Jersey will play the first match on October 9 at 7 pm. The second match is scheduled on October 10 at 4 pm, while the third and final match will start on October 11 at 7 pm.
Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry will lead the Qatar team, while Mohammad Rizlan has been made the Vice-Captain. Gul Khan Jadoon is the Team Manager and Shahid Mahboob is the Head Coach.
