Doha: The State of Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The former PM was assassinated on a street in the western city of Nara by a gunman who opened fire on him from behind as he delivered a campaign speech. Qatar considers the act as a heinous crime.
In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the position of the State of Qatar rejecting violence and terrorism, regardless of the motives and reasons.
The statement stated that Qatar recalls with pride and appreciation the positions of the deceased, who was a loyal friend and supporter of the close relations between the two countries, expressing its condolences to the friendly government and people of Japan, and the family of the late former prime minister.
