Doha: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) organised 12 events and lectures related to medical, spiritual and cultural awareness in different areas of Qatar in last couple of months.
A QRC health expert delivered a lecture on healthy food, titled ‘My Health Is in My Bag’ to 35 parents at Al Khor Independent Boys Kindergarten. A similar lecture was given to 60 Grade-Six primary students of Al Khor Independent Boys School.
Students and teachers of Smeismah Elementary Boys School received a first aid lecture, which comprised an introduction to QRC and its nonprofit services, as well as an overview of first aid basics and how to take care of injuries, fractures, and heart failures until the arrival of ambulances.
The branch held a lecture titled ‘Women’s Health’ for nearly 50 teachers and administrative staffers of Al Thakhira Primary Girls School. A QRC medical lecturer emphasised the importance of paying due attention to women’s health after puberty; teaching girls the habits of good nutrition, personal hygiene, and exercising; regularly visiting gynaecologist clinics; and having medical examinations casually for early diagnosis of health problems.
In addition, a lecture on volunteerism was held for Grade-Five and Grade-Six primary students of Al Thakhira Independent Boys School.
Under the Slogan “My School’s Camp: Towards Distinction and Creativity,’ the branch participated in the exhibition held at Al Thakhira Primary Girls School.
In coordination with Al Khor Girls Centre, a religious women-only lecture titled ‘Injustice Turns into Darknesses on the Day of Resurrection’ was delivered to the members by the Islamic preacher and family consultant Sheikh Ayesh Al Qahtani.
A team of QRC staff and volunteers cooperated with Al Khor Sports Club in organising the ‘Midar Maritime Festival’ a two-day fair held at the Al Khor Port, displaying ancient handcrafts, the making of ships and different types of fishnets, some classic automobiles and rare heritage masterpieces, and fish species in Qatar’s marine ecosystem.
In commemoration of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day observed by National Societies around the globe, QRC Al Khor had its part in this year’s celebrations, in extraordinary partnership with the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC).
The branch launched a campaign in Al Shamal region to warn workers against sun exposure and heat exhaustion and give them advice regarding how to preserve their safety, through the distribution of educative fliers, personal hygiene kits, water and juice bottles, and QRC T-shirts and caps.
Officials of the branch held a meeting with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, responsible for 2022 World Cup, to give its members a presentation about QRC’s healthcare and social projects in Al Khor and Al Shamal region at large and explore potential integration of its capabilities and activities into the national preparations for the international football competition.
At Al Khor Girls Center, the branch participated in a workshop titled “Implanting Fear in Children.” A three-speaker board discussed with the members types and causes of fear among youngsters, urging them to avoid intimidating their kids, to build up their children’s trust in God at all times, and to use religious words of Dhikr and prayers. An open Q&A session followed.
Al Khor Girls Center organized another workshop titled “Al Baraha Forum,” where attendants were divided into groups and held separate discussions with a QRC social worker about ways to advance women, protect their rights, and overcome their daily life stress.
