Varanasi/New Delhi: The BJP declared war on the Election Commission after it denied permission to its prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi to hold rallies and another event today in Varanasi where he is contesting his second Lok Sabha seat.
But the BJP announced that Modi would nevertheless visit Varanasi today and his motorcade would go from the Banaras Hindu University to the BJP’s election headquarters from where he would leave for the airport. The BJP said it was aghast that Modi was not being allowed to hold his events in his own Lok Sabha constituency, and blamed the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh for the mess.
“It must be for the first time in Indian elections that a candidate is being denied permission to hold rally in his own constituency,” party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said in New Delhi.
Modi was to address election rallies in Varanasi, performing a Ganga ‘arti’ and attend a get-together to interact with 150 prominent citizens. All three programmes stand cancelled. IANS
