The Katara Mosque and the Golden Mosque will host the 11th edition of the Holy Quran Memorisation Competition for children with the participation of 35 children ranging from ages 10 to 15. Twenty children are male while 15 are female.
The competition will continue every week from Sunday to Thursday, after the afternoon prayer, for an hour. It will conclude on April 21 with a ceremony honouring all participants in the competition by giving them cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.
The Holy Quran Memorisation Competition includes the teaching and memorisation of parts and surahs from the Quran, under the supervision of qualified memorisers from the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, who were carefully selected from those with competence and experience.
The Quranic session in both the Katara Mosque and the Golden Mosque hosts a selection of distinguished preachers from women and men, to provide children with useful and purposeful religious instructions and directions, which include an explanation of some of the honourable prophetic hadiths, in addition to teaching children the duties and pillars of Islam, and ablution and prayer. This will be held every Thursday afternoon until the end of the session.
Cultural Village Foundation, Katara has been doing the Holy Quran Memorisation Competition annually every holy month of Ramadan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs. It is aimed to link children and young people to the Quran through memorising, studying, reciting its verses, contemplating its meanings and working on its provisions.
It also introduces children to the values, virtues, morals and behaviours derived from Islam.
In its previous sessions, the competition was very popular with children, and it was admired and applauded by parents for its important role in instilling virtuous Islamic values and morals, derived from the Quran and the Prophet’s biography.
